When you open the book about Roland’s story for the first time, you wait for the amazing things to happen: large knightly battles, betrayals, demonstration of loyalty to friends and country. Well, you get it in few first pages. But we assure you, that you need to read the whole book just to drive into this story completely and feel the entire range of emotions.
It's a fast-moving, dramatic French epic based on a true event during Charlemagne’s somewhat unsuccesful campaign of 778 in northern Moorish Spain. Usually students find history boring, but we are sure that you will change your mind in this case. We never thought that «The song of Roland» would have such an impact on us. At first, this brave knight was no more than one of the medieval characters. But then, after reading the text, observing the Roland’s actions, we found him really interesting person, who had the rights to make mistakes, even if they are irrevocable. We worried about him, his friend, Olivier, the king, Charlemagne, and every french knight (well, excluding Ganelon).
Cut the story short, this book is full of action, feelings, experiences and relationships between friends and enemies. We never felt bored while reading it. Give this story a chance and you won’t notice how fast you will read it.
